Electric Generator Tester

The Generator Tester includes voltage, current, regulation, resistance, hipot, core loss, rated speed and over speed tests on a computer-based, fully automatic equipment designed to test electric generators in a production line environment. Regulator programming is also available as a part of the test sequence.

Electrical tests
-
Open circuit voltage and balance
-
Short circuit current and balance
-
Circulating currents for main and PMG coils
-
Automatic voltage regulation with DC power supply excitation and flashing current for excitation coil
-
For 1-phase and 3-phase generators
Resistance test
-
4-Wire Kelvin connections are used to provide the best measurements for low resistances
-
Resolutions from 0.1µΩ are available for very low resistance components
-
Ambient temperature compensation is standard
-
Optional non-contact infrared spectrum temperature measurement is available
Hipot test
-
Voltage ranges from 50 to 5000 volts, AC or DC
-
Arc detection to sense breakdowns
-
Capacitive current compensation to measure only the resistive portion of the current
-
Ramped turn-on voltage to avoid high inrush currents
Regulation
-
Automatic regulation through DC power supply for the excitation coil. The system automatically rotates the generator to the specified speed, regulates the output and performs the measurements.
-
The generator’s digital regulator can be also automatically programmed via bus interface such as RS232, USB or Ethernet.
Speed and Core Loss
-
Generator is rotated using a computer-controlled motor-drive set to automatically perform both the rated-speed and the over-speed tests.
-
The core loss is measured by using the power measurement from the drive spinning the generator.
Fixturing
ALM offers a complete range of fixture options, from manual to fully automated systems. Standard fixtures include 4-Wire Kelvin clips, manual mount, and coupling for generator under test, as well as physical safety curtains.
Software
- Windows operating system based.
- Automatic mode for fully automated testing.
- Database for Test Limits and Tests Results.
- Option for ALM 4.0 SCADA interface.
